Dr. Shakti Butler is a dynamic filmmaker and visionary educator in the field of social and racial equity. She is the president of World Trust Educational Services, an organization she founded over two decades ago to promote racial justice and healing through film and facilitated dialogue. Through transformative education rooted in love and justice, World Trust produces films, curricula, workshops and programs that are catalysts for institutional, structural, and cultural change. Shakti has produced five documentaries: The Way Home; Mirrors of Privilege: Making Whiteness Visible; Light in the Shadows; and Cracking the Codes: The System of Racial Inequity; and Healing Justice: Cultivating a World of Belonging. Her transformative educational tools have been distributed to all 50 states and the District of Columbia, and her films have generated millions of transformative conversations--with one clip going viral with 30 million views and counting. She was a diversity consultant for Zootopia, a Disney film on challenging bias and stereotypes. Shakti’s latest film/dialogue project, Healing Justice: Cultivating a World of Belonging, is igniting national conversation about justice through the lens of restorative practices, accountability, and healing. This film exposes the roots of the cradle-to-prison pipeline and explores the power of interrupting punitive models and cycles of intergenerational trauma. She is currently engaged in building upon World Trust's body of work to include the benefits of Radical Imagination, Healing and play as necessary components of creating a future that embraces and build cultures of belonging.
